A 73-year-old man was tricked into letting a distraction burglar into his home.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the distraction burglary in Fosse Green, Rushden, which took place between 6.15pm and 7pm on Friday, December 6.

A police spokesman said: “The victim, a 73-year-old man, answered the door to a man who said he was looking for his son’s football.

“The victim let the man into his back garden to look for the ball.

“After a short while, the man said he had found it and kicked it back over the fence, and he left the property.

“Sometime later, the victim went upstairs and found that a number of items were missing, including cash and bank cards.”

The offender is white, about 40-years-old, 6ft and of a big build.

He was clean shaven and wore a woollen hat, blue jeans and a dark anorak.
