Pedestrian suffers serious injuries after accident near Irchester

A 20-year-old man needed hospital treatment after being hit by a car.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident which took place at about 5am yesterday (Sunday, November 4) on the A509 Irchester Road, from Wellingborough, towards the Gipsy Lane roundabout.

A police spokesman said: “For reasons yet unknown, a 20-year-old man pedestrian was in the road when he was in collision with a red VW Polo, being driven by a 23-year-old man.

“The pedestrian received serious injuries in the collision and was taken to Northampton General Hospital for treatment.”

Officers are keen to speak to the driver of a silver car seen in the area at the time of the accident.

It is believed the silver ‘Mondeo’ style car, with foreign number plates was travelling along the road at about 5am.

Officers would like to speak to the driver of this car as a potential witness.

They would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen a young man wearing a white shirt and dark coloured trousers, walking from Wellingborough towards Irchester between 4am and 5am on Sunday.

The man who was injured in the collision remains in hospital with serious injuries.
