Pedestrian access at KGH to be restricted this weekend

Last week the section of internal road running down from the mini-roundabout next to Car Park A down to the front of A&E was resurfaced.

This weekend the ambulance bay area adjacent to A&E needs to be done.

The area will be fenced off to pedestrians and vehicles with the exception of emergency ambulances.

Traffic marshalls will be on site once again to help direct traffic and pedestrians.

This will mean for this weekend:

- Pedestrians will not be able to walk from the main hospital entrance across the ambulance bay and in front of A&E to enter A&E and outpatients. People can either walk through the main hospital corridor or loop back through Car Park A.

- The new disabled walkway from Car Park A opposite Rockingham will be closed. People unable to manage steps will need to leave the car park using pedestrian exits opposite Glebe House and walk down past Rockingham Wing.

- Access to the labour ward in Rockingham Wing will NOT be affected - although please take extra caution this weekend.

- Pedestrian access from Car Park A to A&E and outpatients will NOT be affected.

Once the red route is completed only ambulances will be able to use it to access A&E and outpatients.

All other vehicles will need to use the trust’s car parks.

A KGH spokesman said: “We apologise for any inconvenience that these temporary works may cause and ask that patients and visitors bear with us over this weekend.

“If your need for A&E is not an emergency we strongly advise that you seek alternative treatment through your GP, pharmacist, 111 or Corby Urgent Care Centre.”
