Community fundraiser for Lakelands Hospice in Corby, Paul Marlow, peddled for 453 miles – and never left town.

To celebrate Lakelands Week and help raise awareness of the hospice, he cycled the distance to Corby’s German twin town of Velbert on a static bike.

He completed the challenge in Corporation Street in the town centre.

Paul said: “The hospice is planning to engage with Corby’s twin towns more and we thought this would be an ideal way to raise the profile.

“I’ve done a bit of cycling in the past but nothing on this scale. It was a difficult challenge but made worthwhile by all the kind support and donations I received. Once again the people of Corby borough come through for their local hospice.”

The hospice’s fundraising team is always looking for new ways to raise the £475,000 needed every year to keep it running.

Anyone who has a fundraising idea or who would like to hold an event of their own is asked to contact Paul or Sophie on 01536 747755.

Terri Meechan, Corby carnival organiser, is hoping to relaunch the town’s twinning activities between Velbert and Chatellerault in France.

She is planning to hold a twinning conference in October and anyone interested in taking part can contact her on 07795985419.
