Representatives of the Green Party, Labour and UKIP have taken part in a debate on the EU ahead of the European Parliament Elections next month.

The debate, entitled “A Question on Europe”, took place at Wellingborough’s Hind Hotel last night (Wednesday, April 16).

European Parliamentary candidates for the East Midlands Jonathan Bullock, of UKIP, and Richard Mallender, of the Green Party, as well as Labour’s General Election candidate for Wellingborough and Rushden Richard Garvie, took part in the event.

The Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats chose not to send panellists.

Shasha Khan, from the Hind Hotel, said: “At times the debate was quite intense. On one occasion I had to raise my voice and warn someone that I would have to ask them to leave the room if their heckling continued.”

The European elections take place on Thursday, May 22.
