The number of people claiming out-of-work benefits in north Northamptonshire has risen for the first time in a year, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics released today (Wednesday, February 19).

The ONS says the number of people claiming jobseeker’s allowance rose slightly in Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and East Northants.

A total of 5,596 people in those four areas claimed the benefit in January 2014.

That represents a rise of 255 people since December, although the rate remains significantly lower than in January 2013, when 8,020 people claimed JSA.
