Now that we’re into autumn, I can’t help but notice that the toy adverts are gradually increasing on the television.
But there are a few that have raised my eyebrows on more than one occasion, I must say.
For instance, when I was a child, we had dolls that wet themselves after being fed, but now that has gone further, with toy dogs and cats that not only wee, but also leave little poops behind too.
The dog works by getting fed ‘treats’ and a moment or two later they appear at the other end, all ready to be picked up with a specially designed pooper-scooper.
But the one that has left me open-mouthed is a game that involves the child milking a plastic cow.
The idea is that if bottles of milk come out of the cow’s derriere, you win a point, but if a poop comes out, you lose.
The whole game is over when the cow’s eyes pop out of her head like something from an old cartoon!
When my friend told me about the game, and pointed me in the direction of the advert on YouTube, I could hardly believe my eyes.
But feeling as though I may be a little prudish, I asked my daughter to watch the advert and let me know what she thought.
She took one look; threw her hand over her mouth and declared that she found the entire thing inappropriate. I must say I had to agree.
Of course I know that there are some children out there who will enjoy playing this kind of game, and each to their own.
But I must say that we won’t be asking Santa to deliver weeing dogs and eye-popping cows to our house this Christmas.
Instead, I think we will be sticking to the age-old favourites: My Little Pony; Monster High and Moshi-Monsters.
At least none of them require a litter tray or plastic gloves every time you want to play with them.
