It’s hard to believe that Christmas is nearly upon us.
It has been such a busy year at the park that it doesn’t seem two minutes since we were basking in the August sunshine and watching Wicky Bear slip down the water slide at our Playday event.
The park’s pavilion, of course, is in full festive swing, with hundreds of people enjoying our famous party nights and our Hooray For Hollywood Tinseltown daytime shows.
Everything will end with the grand finale of our New Year’s Eve celebration – and I know from talking to many of you that Christmas at Wicksteed is a central part of your celebrations.
I do wonder what Charles Wicksteed would have made of a modern-day Christmas.
He loved a party, by all accounts, so I’m sure he would be the life and soul of our events if he was around today.
His engineering background would also leave him fascinated by the technological advances which have given us such things as X-Boxes and PlayStations.
Although I don’t doubt he would also have a view on the negative effects of allowing children to play on them too much, at the expense of some fresh air.
Christmas, of course, is a time of reflection and of looking to the future.
We have had some great feedback from the public this year, both in telling us about things we do well and also in pointing out things which you think we can do better.
Rest assured we take all comments on board as we plan some exciting new developments at the park to build on the ongoing lake restoration project.
Keep your eyes peeled on this website for some announcements about what we have planned in the near future.
In the meantime, on behalf of all the staff at Wicksteed Park, can I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
PS Many thanks to all of you who came to help out with the fundraising for Children in Need.
I hope you had an enjoyable time – and managed to get on the telly!
We were delighted to help support such a worthy cause, and to give the UK’s most loved bear the chance to meet Pudsey!
