More than a thousand county teenagers took part in a voluntary scheme in which they helped the community during 2014.

The 16 and 17-year-olds participated in the National Citizen Service (NCS), a national voluntary programme designed to give teenagers the opportunity to develop life skills.

Teens from Northamptonshire spent 30,000 hours giving back to their communities during the social action projects.

NCS’s Phil Everett said: “We were delighted with the number of Northants young people who got involved with the programme.”

Daniel Pouncey from Finedon took part in the programme. He added: “I’ve gained loads of new skills and made some awesome friends throughout the programme.”
