Israel’s Olympic swimming team has confirmed details of its summer training camp in Corby.
Corby Council successfully negotiated a deal with the Israeli team last spring for it to hold its pre-games training camp in the town.
And the athletes will arrive at Corby International Pool from July 19.
The team will stay in town in a party of up to 30, including coaches, a chef, a nutritionist, family and friends.
The training camp will mean changes to when the public can use the pool, and a revised timetable will be issued before the athletes arrive.
Corby International Pool manager Liz Hudson said: “Last year we were honoured to make our facilities available for the Israeli Olympic swimming team to train in and we are very excited to welcome them once again to our swimming pool and gym.
“We are already putting preparations in place for their visit and will ensure that our customers are kept fully informed of any changes to the pool’s timetable.
“Excitement is already building around the Olympics now the torch is making its way through the country so I’m sure our customers will enjoy this fantastic opportunity to see an Olympic team in action.”
Corby Council’s lead member for community, Cllr John McGhee, said: “Having an Olympic team train in our town shows how the investment we have put into our facilities has put Corby on the sporting map. This year is a special one for Corby with the Queen’s visit and the Olympic torch passing through the town and the athletes training in Corby just means that we are able to be a bigger part of the Olympic celebrations. I look forward to seeing the progress the swimmers have made since we last saw them and we all wish them the best of luck in the Olympic Games.”
The updated swimming timetable will be posted at www.corby.gov.uk/corbypool.
