The Olympic Velodrome has been a hive of activity throughout London 2012.

We have seen Team GB take seven track cycling gold medals and Sir Chris Hoy has become our most successful Olympian.

He claimed his sixth Olympic gold medal with a win in the keirin, his second gold in London after team sprint success.

And in road racing, Bradley Wiggins made history by becoming the first rider to win the Tour de France and an Olympic gold medal in the same season, following his success in the Olympic Road Time Trial.

Of course cycling covers a wide range of disciplines which include BMX, cycle speedway, cyclo-cross, mountain, road and track.

British Cycling is the national governing body for cycle sport in the UK and runs an array of activities for people to get involved.

For more information locally contact Josie Heffernan, central region development officer, on 07940 738314 or email josieheffernan@britishcycling.org.uk.

We are mid ay through the British summer of cycling where people of all ages and abilities can dust off their bike and take advantage of cycle paths and routes throughout the country side.

Have a look at the events coming up, including Northampton Celebration of Cycling and Big Connect 2 Cycle Ride, Beckets Park, Northampton, on Saturday, August 11.

It’s a fun free event to celebrate cycling. Bring your bike along and cycle the newly completed Connect2 cycle route for your chance to win some great prizes, including a brand-new £400 bike from Halfords.
