The tae kwon-do competition gets into full swing this week with medal hopes for Team GB including Sarah Stevenson, Jade Jones, Martin Stamper and Lutalo Muhammed.
Tae kwon-do translates into English as ‘the art of foot and fist’ – and it is exactly that, a battle of kicks and punches.
The protagonists compete on a mat inside a eight-by-eight-metre zone, over three rounds of two minutes.
The aim is to land accurate kicks and punches on the scoring area of their opponent.
Tae kwon-do in Northamptonshire meanwhile has been thriving with the county now possessing three Clubmark clubs, which are based in Raunds, Northampton and Wellingborough.
All these clubs have become actively involved with the Northamptonshire County Sports Partnership and are looking to improve what they can offer to people getting involved in the sport.
If the Olympics are inspiring you to give tae kwon-do a go, all clubs cater for people of all ages and fitness levels.
You can find out more information about where to find these clubs by following the Northamptonshire Sport Club Directory here.
