Team GB’s Women’s Olympic hockey team featuring Anne Panter who went to Wellingborough School play their penultimate group game against China at 4pm today (Saturday).
The result of the match could have a strong bearing on whether or not the British team will secure one of the top two places in their group which would advance them to the semi-finals and a good chance of winning a medal.
The British team who are currently ranked fourth in the world have started the competition well with two convincing wins against Japan (4-0) and South Korea (5-3), but the Chinese ranked just one place below them in fifth will provide much tougher competition.
Men, women and children have also got the opportunity to play hockey in Kettering this summer with Kettering Town Hockey Club as part of Great Britain Hockey’s ‘Get Involved’ project.
Between Monday, August 6, and Friday, August 10, the club is running junior “give it a go” sessions from 10am to midday each day on the astro-turf near Kettering Arena in Thurston Drive.
And, so the grown-ups don’t feel left out – adults have also got the chance to get into, or indeed back into hockey by participating in sessions every Tuesday throughout August from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at a cost of just £3 per week.
For more details about either of these sessions contact Liz Randle from the club on 07775 758786 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
