A donation has been made to help a volunteer who trains some of Great Britain’s Olympic hopefuls.

Mick Hillyer, who owns Ar Tarn Private Hire in Desborough, raised £560 for Graham Ravenscroft by hosting a curry night.

Mr Ravenscroft, of Columbus Crescent, Rothwell, dedicates his spare time to training athletes who could compete for Great Britain in the high jump.

But he is completely self-funded and appealed through the Evening Telegraph last year for help from local businesses.

Mr Hillyer said: “Graham and I were old school friends but it was only because I read the article in the Evening Telegraph that I knew he was doing this.

“I’m going to help him until he’s got what he needs.”

Mr Hillyer is holding an event at Desborough Bowls Club on April 7, where acoustic duo Limited Edition will perform.

There will also be a DJ and buffet. Tickets cost £10 and can be bought by calling Mick on 07756 558006. To support Mr Ravenscroft call 07976 746168 or email graham.ravenscroft@ntlworld.com.
