Not enough ambulances

The recent criticism of East Midlands Ambulance Service could well be down to not having expanded the amount of vehicles covering Northamptonshire as the area has grown.

Also, too often, ambulances are “unavailable” due to delays at the hospital in unloading their cargo, consequently less vehicles are then able to respond to emergencies. It is worrying that ambulance control is at Nottingham (with back-up from the Lincoln control), where as local knowledge may not be recognised when previous control was based in Northamptonshire. Local crews used to cover their own area but now crews are more widespread, consequently crews often “get lost” when not familiar with the area they are sent to.

It is deplorable waiting long periods for an ambulance – especially in emergency situations.
