Five volunteer firefighters from Northamptonshire will pit their wits against some of the most knowledgable brains in the country on TV next week.

Members of the Geddington Volunteer Fire Brigade take on the Eggheads in the popular quiz show of the same name, hosted by Jeremy Vine.

Four of the team will take on an Egghead of their choice in a head-to-head with the winners remaining for the final round, with £9,000 up for grabs.

The Geddington Volunteer Fire Brigade was formed in 1977 during the national firemen’s strike, and is now a registered charity with 80 men signed up as members.

The brigade aims to support the local community in general but their serious side is tempered by a real sense of fun, with the most famous of all events the brigade participate in the annual Boxing Day ‘squirt’ – where a big water fight takes place with hundreds of spectators cheering along at the village ford.

To see how the team gets on, tune in to BBC 2 at 6pm on Tuesday, September 29.
