Catering students from Northampton College will get the chance to work in the kitchens at one of the county’s most lavish dinners, picking up tips from top chefs and seeing their work served to hundreds of guests.

Four groups of students will join the team behind the scenes at the annual Carlsberg UK Northampton Food and Drink Awards, taking place at Royal & Derngate on Thursday, October 15.

They will help head chef Lee Scott prepare a sumptuous menu celebrating the very best of Northamptonshire produce before plating up the gourmet meal to be enjoyed by VIP guests.

Curriculum manager for catering and hospitality at Northampton College, Kath Russell, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for our talented students to showcase their skills on a bigger stage.

“The Food & Drink Awards Dinner is one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the Northamptonshire calendar.

“It’s excellent for our Level 3 students to have the chance to work at such a prestigious occasion.”

The food will be prepared in the state-of-the-art kitchens at Northampton College’s Booth Lane campus before being taken across to Derngate for the dinner.

Awards Director, Rachel Mallows explained how delighted the competition is to have the College’s support; “This partnership will give the students the chance to taste what professional life might be like and it is one that I hope they will relish.”

The Carlsberg UK Northamptonshire Food & Drink Awards celebrate the very best of local produce, restaurants, chefs, cafes and pubs.
