Kettering’s sporting heroes will be championed at an awards evening later this year.
Nominations are now open for the town’s Sport Awards 2012, jointly organised by Kettering Council and Kettering Youth Council.
Cllr Jonathan Bullock, portfolio holder for leisure provision, said: “Last year was the biggest sports awards we’ve ever hosted, and with this being an Olympic year we hope to really show off what local residents have achieved.
“Maybe you know a friend, relative, colleague, partner or your local team that deserves an award. If so, get your nomination in now.”
Anyone can nominate, whether it be a recommendation for an individual, team, coach, volunteer, school or club, with the sports personality of the year award beign decided by a public vote. Last year’s winner was Megan Twigg, of Kettering Premier Judo Club.
Fourteen-year-old Megan is one of the brightest young female judoka of her generation, winning gold at the British School Championships last year.
People can view the categories and nominate online at www.kettering.gov.uk/spoty12.
Nominations will close at midnight on Wednesday, September 19.
The awards night will take place at Wicksteed Park on Wednesday, October 31.
