People who think their pub is a real hub of the community are being asked to show their appreciation by nominating them for an award.
Nominations are being invited from the public for the Community Pub of the Year award as part of the annual Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards.
The reigning champions are, in the rural category, The George and Dragon in Chacombe and, in the town category, The Olde England in Northampton.
Being named as Community Pub of the Year was a great boost for last year’s winners.
Landlord of the The George and Dragon Chris Peverell said: “The pub did really well following our win last October, not least because that success gave us some fantastic coverage and, throughout November, we were roughly 20 per cent up on the same period the previous year.
“We don’t think that’s a coincidence.
“It built up a real prestige around the pub and, even now, people are still walking through the door to congratulate us on a daily basis. It makes us feel really proud.”
Northamptonshire Newspapers are the media partners for the Community Pub of the Year award, which is sponsored by Pidy UK.
The annual awards, now in their sixth year, were started to celebrate all that’s great about local produce and drink and recognising excellence in the county’s restaurants, pubs and cafes as well as recognising those who work in them.
The food and drink sector employs about 46,000 people in the county and is worth an estimated £1.5bn annually.
To nominate a pub download a form from www.northamptonshirefoodanddrink.co.uk or call 01933 664437.
The closing date for nominations is Monday, May 19.
