There are no plans for a Nando’s to open in Wellingborough, the company has said.
Yesterday it was revealed that chicken restaurant Nando’s was topping a poll of people who were asked which eatery should replace McDonald’s in Market Street.
McDonald’s is relocating to a bigger branch in London Road in October.
And chicken restaurant Nando’s is so far the favourite eatery to replace the hamburger restaurant, according to a poll.
But a Nando’s spokesman said: “It’s great to hear there are so many Nando’s fans in Wellingborough.
“However, we have no plans to open a restaurant in the town right now.”
A Nando’s opened recently in Corby as part of the town’s new cinema complex.
So far more than 250 people have voted in the online poll by Wellingborough Chamber of Commerce.
More than half have voted for the popular chicken chain to open in the prime town centre position.
A further 27 per cent want another burger restaurant to replace the famous golden arches with the remaining 17 per cent saying there were in a favour of an Italian restaurant.
Chamber president David Cross said: “It’s sad that Nando’s is choosing to ignore the clear demand for it to come to Wellingborough as demonstrated by our online poll.
“We would to invite Nando’s to seriously consider coming to the town especially with this volume of support.
“Wellingborough is a great town which is on the rise.”
