The NHS in Northamptonshire is to put on a series of events to encourage healthy hearts, to coincide with Valentine’s Day.
Is is part of a national campaign to promote the free NHS health check, which is available to people between the ages of 40 and 74.
The NHS health check is a free service, which assesses the risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and kidney disease.
NHS Northamptonshire’s health ninjas – who will almost literally be wearing their hearts on their sleeves – will be out and about in the county in suits illustrated with vital organs like the heart, to show on the outside what is important on the inside.
Dr Stephen Rogers, consultant in public health, said: “Many people between the ages of 40 and 74 don’t go and have their health check because they feel physically normal and healthy.
“What they don’t know is that some conditions might not present with symptoms for many years. Having a health check will help you to be better prepared for a healthier future.”
The events, which last from 10am to 3pm, are taking place at Asda Corby on Saturday, February 23, at Asda Rushden on Tuesday, February 26, and at the Swansgate shopping centre in Wellingborough on Thursday, March 7. Organisers have encouraged people to come along early to book your slot.
The free activities include healthy eating master-classes, DETECT champion cancer workshops and the opportunity to have a free health check.
