New seating has been installed to remember the lives lost by those who fought in the First and Second World Wars.

Higham Ferrers Town Council has had two new benches installed by the War Memorial in the town to commemorate those who gave their lives in the First World War and also mark the 70th anniversary since the end of the Second World War.

Mayor Richard Gell said: “I am delighted that the town council has been able to enhance the tribute to those from Higham Ferrers, who gave their lives in the two World Wars.”

Cllr Derek Lawson MBE is pictured on the First World War bench, which he funded from his County Councillor Empowerment monies, while the other bench has been funded by the town council.

Town clerk Sandra Mitcham said: “Since the benches were installed, residents have been stopping to look and take photos.

“They have all been very complimentary.”
