A community interest company which provides services for young people in Corby will continue at the Connaughty Centre until June and it is confident new premises will be found.

The centre in Cottingham Road is to close and the site sold, but Youth Works, which operates out of the building, will keep going.

Originally it was to have left the building by March.

Youth Works director Carol Copeland said: “We have had an extension until June. In the meantime we have been looking at alternative premises in the town and there are a few which could be suitable.

“We hope to make a decision on where we will move to by the end of this month.”

County council cabinet members agreed the sale of the site of the centre and the adjoining McDiarmid sports hall last year.

It’s running costs are £78,000 a year and repairs to both buildings would cost between £500,000 and £700,000.

Youth Works, which employs 21 staff at Corby and Kettering runs a youth club and a cafe for teenagers in the building, as well as training, education and employment programmes.
