It has been created thanks to a grant of £23,000 from the Mick George Ltd Community Fund, which awards funding to community projects across the region.

The play trail features climbing frames, balance beams, peeping posts, sculptured butterfly seating and trails that contain a den building area, rustic seating circle, a grass maze and climbing logs, designed to reflect the diverse wildlife that can be seen at the park.

She said: “This new wild play trail has been created using feedback from our park visitors and is designed to encourage people to learn more about the diverse nature that can be found at Fermyn Woods.

“Thanks to the support of the Mick George Community Fund, we’re confident this wild play area will encourage youngsters to learn more about the country park in a fun and quirky way, get outdoors and be more active.”

The official opening of the wild play trail will take place on Friday and pupils from Danesholme Infants Academy in Corby have been invited to be the first to try out the play area.

“We have partaken in a number of conservation projects in recent years, partnering wonderful charities such as The National Trust, RSPB and the Woodland Trust.

“This initiative gave us the chance to join forces with Northamptonshire County Council which was equally as successful in providing visitors and the local community with a superior experience as a result.”
