New owners of the former Solway Foods factory at Corby, Food Upotia, are to launch a 45-day consultation process with workers on Saturday.

Of the remaining 341 workers at the plant in Godwin Road, which employed a workforce of more than 900, between 100 and 130 staff will be affected by planned changes to structures and shift patterns.

A spokesman for the task force set up to help workers made redundant from Solway Foods said: “The rapid response team will continue to support the employees of Food Utopia.

“We hope to have a clearer time line for these exits and will therefore be able to offer more targeted support to all employees.”

Solway management announced plans to close the factory in February, saying the ageing plant was no longer viable, despite improvements to the premises.
