A charity shop’s presence in Kettering has been given a new lease of life.

Northamptonshire Association for the Blind had to close its charity shop in Wadcroft in December.

But the boss of the town’s Newlands Shopping Centre read about the charity’s plight and offered premises which had become available in Newland Street.

The charity will open its new shop this Friday.

NAB’s John Wood said shopping centre manager Neil Griffin had read about the charity’s problems in the Northants Telegraph and got in touch with them.

Mr Wood added: “When we closed we had hoped it wouldn’t be for long but none of us imagined we could turn it around so quickly.

“Our staff and volunteers, plus their relatives have worked tirelessly since Christmas, and through the New Year period, to move all the stock and fittings from the old shop.”

The shop will be open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm and on Saturdays until 1pm. They hope to extend the opening hours when extra volunteers are found. Anyone who can help can call 01604 719193.

NAB’s Sight Centre in Wadcroft remains open as normal.
