Corby Council has agreed new guidelines designed to help mums feel as comfortable as possible to breast feed their babies when they are out and about in the town.
The new policy comes at the same time as recent figures show a drop in breastfeeding rates in Northamptonshire from 47 per cent in 2009 to 41 per cent in 2013.
Designated rooms in Corby swimming pool, East Carlton Park, Hazelwood Neighbourhood Centre, Lodge Park Sports Centre, Corby Cube and West Glebe Pavilion will be made available to mums who are breastfeeding.
Former nurse and Corby Council’s deputy leader, Cllr Jean Addison, welcomed the move. She said: “This is a positive way forward for Corby’s mothers and babies and we hope many more organisations and businesses in the borough will adopt the same open and friendly approach.”
