Northamptonshire Police has launched a campaign urging people to think about the consequences of getting involved in violence, as part of Operation Challenge.
Chief Inspector Andy Cox, from Operation Challenge, said: “We have a high impact, countywide initiative planned throughout September and we want to raise awareness of how violence can affect the lives of both victims and offenders prior to this and the Bank Holiday weekend.
“For example, most people don’t begin a night out with the intention of becoming violent but excessive alcohol consumption can loosen inhibitions and increase aggression and they end up on the wrong side of the law.
“This can have serious repercussions on their lives – they could end up in prison, get a criminal record and their job and career prospects could be restricted.
“The question we want them to consider is – is it worth it?”
Information about Operation Challenge is being distributed via leaflets, the force’s website, facebook and twitter and advertising vans, including both safety advice and information about the consequences of violent crime.
