A serious collision closed the A14 in Northamptonshire in both directions this afternoon (Tuesday, August 19).
The three-vehicle crash happened on the westbound carriageway between junctions three for Rothwell and Desborough and junction two for Kelmarsh.
However, both carriageways were shut for a period to allow the air ambulance to land. The fire and rescue service was also on the scene.
On Twitter, PC Dave Lee from Northants Police’s roads policing unit, said: “Fire on scene currently freeing a motorist from a vehicle. A14 will be closed for at least 20 mins in both directions.”
PC Lee said an eastbound lane was temporarily reopened after the air ambulance landed but would briefly shut again to allow it to take off.
The westbound carriageway has remained closed for longer.
At least one person has been cut free from their vehicle by the fire crew, according to reports.
