Families had a blooming great time when a popular children’s TV presenter made a special appearance in Wellingborough.

Mr Bloom, who has a regular programme on children’s channel CBeebies, appeared at the town’s Swansgate centre yesterday (Wednesday, April 6), to the delight of hundreds of fans.

Mr Bloom, otherwise known as Ben Faulks, performed two interactive shows as part of the shopping centre’s Spring Festival.

And he was even surprised with a cake made out of characters from his Mr Bloom’s Nursery show, courtesy of local woman Rhiannon Batten.

She said: “I run a new cake business, called The Batten Bakery, supported by the Prince’s Trust programme.

“When I heard Mr Bloom was coming to the town, I decided to make him a cake.

“He was wonderful, and absolutely loved it!”

Today and tomorrow young shoppers can enjoy a whole host of free entertainment and activities from 11am to 4pm.

Throughout the Spring Festival, the new children’s area will be home to a selection of free spring crafts, including gnome painting and flower pot decorating, plus making daffodil windmills, bug masks, Easter bunting and colouring.

Also tomorrow there will also be free face painting throughout the day.
