Corby and East Northamptonshire MP Andy Sawford has backed a motion to give pub landlords a fairer deal.
Mr Sawford voted in favour of a new clause being added to the Small Business Bill to make sure landlords get a fairer deal from large pub companies by introducing a market rent option.
He said: “Across Corby and East Northamptonshire we have many great local pubs.
“They employ 1,500 people and play an important role in our local communities and economy, so it’s vitally important we support them to stay open.”
Campaigners believe that allowing tenants to choose a market rent-only option will increase licensee profitability and investment in pubs, lead to greater consumer choice and result in fewer closures.
