A mother has raised more than £2,000 for Cransley Hospice in memory of her son.

Joan Hughes, 80, from Broughton, raised the money through a variety of entertainment events over the course of the last 12 months.

Last week she handed over a cheque for £2,275 in memory of son Derrick Waters, who died at the Kettering hospice in November 2012.

Mrs Hughes said 90 per cent of the total was raised by pensioners via events including bingos, raffles and beetle drives. More than 50 local companies donated prizes which were then raffled off.

She added: “People have been brilliant. We are very pleased.”
