The supermarket wants to build the retail units at its Oakley Road store to ‘rejuvenate’ the existing car park.

It is not yet known who the tenants of the four shops would be.

But the applicants say they are confident they will be well received by Corby residents and visitors to the town.

A planning document said: “The scheme seeks to rejuvenate the existing WM Morrisons car park by offering more choice to consumers and generating new employment opportunities through the provision of four retail units.

“The proposal will be constructed to high standards and with sensitivity to the local environment.

“We can be confident that the addition units will be well received by the local residential and visitors to Corby.

“WM Morrisons hope that the advantages of this proposal as well as the overall benefits to the local community will be supported by Corby Council.”

The units, which will be 1,000sq ft each, would be based opposite the Morrisons store entrance but at the back of the car park.

If approved, it would see the loss of 51 car parking spaces but the creation of an additional four disabled spaces.

A decision on the plans could be made by April 25.
