FORGET sitting in and playing computer games, Scout groups in the county say they are experiencing a surge in teenagers joining the association.
Nearly 100 people joined Scout groups across the county in the past year, taking the membership in the district up to 1,765.
The figure marks a six per cent increase in membership and is the seventh consecutive year of increased members.
The group’s Explorer Scout branches also saw an increase in membership with 10 per cent more teenagers signed up this year compared to last.
A spokesman said: “Scouting provides an enormous range of adventures for young people, allowing them to experience the great outdoors.
“It offers an environment for them to achieve their full potential as individuals and responsible citizens.”
The Scout Association is on the look out for more volunteers to help run the groups.
