Losing weight has been a family affair for these three after they shed 17st between them.

In just 18 months, Deirdre Kiziak, 55, of Irchester, has dropped from 17st 4lb to 11st 4lb, a loss of 6st resulting in her being named Bozeat’s Slimming World Woman of the Year.

But she is not alone in her success with husband Michael dropping 3st and son Chris is now an incredible 8st lighter.

Mrs Kiziak said: “I started to put on weight after having my children and have been overweight for many years. I’ve tried lots of different diets but they usually left me feeling hungry and miserable but Slimming World is completely different, I never have to go hungry and after losing 6st I’m the happiest I’ve been in years.”

She started following a Slimming World plan and now fills up on foods such as fruit and vegetables, lean meat and fish, pasta and potatoes, which are all filling yet naturally low in calories and fat.

She said: “My family and friends are all amazed how much I can eat and still lose weight. We still eat all the same meals that we did before but now I cook and prepare them differently, cooking from scratch instead of relying on ready meals and convenience foods.

“All the family are losing along with me, my son Chris has lost 8st and was the group’s Biggest Loser this year and my husband Michael has so far lost 3st.”

She added: “I’ve gone from a size 22/24 to a 14/16 and it’s made such a huge difference.

“I’ve got so much more energy, my fitness has improved and I enjoy being active now rather than thinking of it as a chore and my table tennis should improve now I can move a little quicker.”

Mrs Kiziak now goes through to the regional finals of the competition, putting her in the running for the national title due to be announced in November.

The slimming group meets every Thursday at 7.30pm at St Mary’s Church Hall, Bozeat. For more details call Dawn Bell on 07793 781435.

Also up for woman of the year

Nicola Anderson is up for Woman of the Year 2013 after being voted by the Rushden Morning group to be their representative in the regional competition.

The 34-year-old has lost more than 6st since joining Slimming World in September 2011.

She said: “I started to put on weight when I left home at 18, but I was at my biggest after having my second baby.”

She added: “I never dreamed I could achieve so much.

“I’ve gone from wearing a size 22 to a size 12. It’s made such a huge difference – it’s changed my life.”
