The mayor of Wellingborough presented awards to members of groups who took part in this weekend’s Waendel Walk in Wellingborough.

Cllr Ken Harrington gave awards to six different groups and organisations at The Castle theatre this afternoon, Sunday, May 12, in recognition of their efforts during the 34th international walking event to be held in the borough.

The mayor’s team award went to Irthlingborough-based charity Chelsea’s Angels, which supports children with rare forms of cancer.

The largest team award was presented to the Wellingborough and District Hindu Association Table Tennis Club.

The largest uniform team went to the South East Midlands Air Cadets, while the largest school group award was won by Wrenn School.

The largest club team award was won by the Higham Gateway organisation, and the 3rd and 11th Wellingborough Brownies were awarded for being the largest youth club.

Cllr Harrington said: “It has been a great weekend and there has been a great atmosphere. It’s been good for Wellingborough.

“I think that the Waendel Walk has gone from strength to strength. Each year we get even more walkers and even more people from all around the world.”
