A man has thanked a medical devices company for helping him to get his life back on track after major surgery.
Two years ago, former publican Ken Stapleford, who lives in Barnwell, near Oundle, underwent life-saving surgery and now uses products supplied by Coloplast of Peterborough to help him overcome health problems.
Thanks to the products themselves and the support that he receives from customer care specialists at Coloplast, Ken continues to lead a normal life and enjoys an active lifestyle which includes playing golf and running regularly to stay fit.
He was the special guest at a company briefing event hosted by general manager Sue Kernahan and other senior managers and they were delighted to hear about his sporting activities and other elements of his lifestyle which are testimony both to his own determination and the support he receives from Coloplast staff.
Mr Stapleford became seriously ill while he and his partner Penny were visiting friends in Australia in 2010. Following life-saving surgery Ken said he found the consequences “mind-bogglingly, psychologically difficult to come to terms with”. But he told employees at the briefing that he had quickly realised there was no alternative other than “to move on and get on with life”.
He is a former design and field engineer at Baker Perkins who later managed The Three Horseshoes public house at Houghton, near St Ives, Cambridgeshire, before owning his own engineering business, Harley Engineering, for more than 23 years.
He praised Coloplast staff for their dedication and caring support to customers like himself.
Mr Stapleford said: “Keep doing everything that you are doing now. Every invention and every innovation that you come up with helps to improve the quality of life for people like me. So please keep up the good work!
“Although I’m living with an intimate healthcare issue it’s not such a big part of my life any more. I’m getting on with the things I enjoy and trying not to let this interfere and prevent me from living life to the full.
“I’ve learned that there is nothing you can’t do if you really put your mind to it. There is always a solution if you want something badly enough.”
