A landowner was shot with an air rifle after he warned people to get off his land.

The man confronted a driver and teenage passenger of a van that had driven on to his field at Fotheringhay Road, Warmington near Oundle.

When he told them to leave, the driver waved a hammer at him and threatened to come back ‘with his gang.’

The landowner and his brother chased the driver again, the driver pulled out an air rifle and fired it, shooting the man in his arm.

They then drove away. The landowner did not suffer any lasting injury.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident that happened on Monday, June 23, between 8.50pm and 9.10pm.

The vehicle was a white Ford Transit crew cab flatbed van. The pair were white with Irish accents. The driver of the van was about 30, 5ft 10in tall with a slim build, short ginger hair, clean shaven, wearing a hoody and jogging bottoms.

The passenger of the van was a boy of about 13, with a slim build.
