A man has been reported for dangerous driving after he drove the wrong way down the M1 to get to his partner, who had been involved in a collision near Watford Gap services in Northamptonshire.

Northants Police officers were called out to deal with a collision on the slip road of the northbound carriageway near the services shortly after 8am this morning.

A traffic officer who dealt with the incident said the partner of the woman involved in the collision had been arrested after he travelled the wrong way down the slip road to get to her.

Northants RPU tweeted: “This driver joined the M1 at Watford Gap services and drove down the M1 the wrong way to get to her, with live lanes still running.

“People need to be reminded that if loved ones are involved in collisions that they still need to drive legally and not put themselves or anyone else in danger.”
