Man jailed after stealing £38,000 in cash from churches in Northamptonshire and across England

A man has been jailed for almost two years for stealing tens of thousands of pounds from church donation boxes.

Stefan Bodnarczuk, 55, was given a 20-month custodial sentence in a hearing at Northampton Crown Court.

Bodnarczuk, from Coventry, stole cash from churches in Fotheringhay, near Oundle, as well as in Lincoln and the West Yorkshire Dales.

Bodnarczuk was arrested by Northamptonshire Police in May 2013 under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

A total of £37,740 was confiscated, which will be awarded as compensation to the three diocese of the Church of England which he stole from.
