A MAN has died after falling from a town centre multi-storey car park.
The tragedy happened in the car park in Anne Street in Corby town centre at about 3.50pm yesterday.
Police said the man was discovered by a member of the public and that enquiries are being made today to try to establish his identity.
They are unable to say whether or not the man jumped from the car park or if his death was the result of an accident.
It is not known if Friday afternoon shoppers in the town centre or staff in nearby shops saw the man fall.
A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that a man was found deceased at the multi-storey car park in Anne Street, Corby.
“Officers are investigating the circumstances of the man’s death, and carrying out enquiries to establish his identity.”
Following the discovery of the man, the car park was closed to the public and police shut the entrance to Anne Street at the mini-roundabout in Elizabeth Street.
Two officers were on duty redirecting traffic.
The entrance to Windsor place, which leads to the former bus station next to the multi-storey car park, was also cordoned off by town centre security staff.
The police spokesman said: “We did everything we could to enable people to gain access and leave the town centre, to enable them to go about their business.”
Dan Pickard, Corby town centre director, was at the scene following the man’s discovery.
He said: “As a result of a fatality we closed the car park and police are now investigating the matter.”
Police say that at this stage they are not appealing for witnesses to the incident.
