Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died following a “medical incident” while driving in the town centre.
The fatal road accident took place on Monday (November 26) at about 8.45am in Castle Way, Wellingborough.
A police spokesman said: “A brown Vauxhall Astra was travelling along Castle Way towards the automatic traffic signals at the Sheep Street junction when the driver suffered a medical episode causing the car to come off the main carriageway and collide with a lamp post.
“The 65-year-old male driver from Rushden was taken to Kettering General Hospital but sadly died.”
No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the incident.
The right hand lane of Castle Way was cordoned off by police while emergency services attended the scene.
