A 70-year old man was airlifted to hospital after falling from a ladder in Rushden.

He sustained injuries to his head and back after falling about three metres at a house in the town on Saturday.

Due to the clinical nature of the incident, East Midlands Ambulance Service requested the assistance of an air ambulance.

Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance was the nearest available service and arrived at the scene at 12.45pm.

A spokesman for the air ambulance said: “On the crew’s arrival, the patient was complaining of head and back pain.

“He was given much-needed pain relief before being immobilised and airlifted to University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire for further treatment.

“His current condition is unknown.”
