As far as grand proposals go, this romantic effort will take some beating.
Den Palmer, 44, chose the unusual method for popping the question to his girlfriend Lisa Farrell, 33, on Saturday.
The couple were celebrating Den’s birthday with family and friends at their home in Grays Drive, Stanion, when they were both asked to put on a blindfold by Den’s daughter Naomi.
Lisa said: “I wasn’t sure what was going on. I could hear an engine and I said ‘Are we getting a helicopter ride?’.
“Den was playing along, saying there was no way he was getting on a helicopter.
“We took off the blindfolds. I looked up and saw the message and when I turned around Den was on one knee with a ring he’d got from Charlbeck Jewellers. I said yes straight away.”
Den’s proposal almost never happened as the pilot towing the banner, who flew from Kent, was worried about bad weather but he waited it out at Sywell Airfield.
The couple have been together for about 12 years and have two children, Dolton, eight, and Roemi, four.
Den has two children from a previous relationship, Naomi, 20, and Oakley, 16.
Lisa is a support worker for adults with learning disabilities while Den is a professional MMA cage fighter.
The couple’s big day is August 10 next year. The date was the birthday of Den’s father, who died last October.
