A COUPLE celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary today have revealed the secret of a long and happy marriage – it’s love and laughter.
Derek Payne, 82, and his wife Iris, 81, of Pioneer Avenue, Burton Latimer, will be celebrating their marriage milestone on Saturday with a party for family and friends.
It is being held at Satra House, Kettering, and has been organised by their children Margaret, Laurence and Ian.
Mrs Payne said: “We have known each other since babies as our parents were friends.
“We love each other and we have always been able to make each other laugh.”
The couple, who have six grandchildren and three-great-grandchildren, moved to the area from Leicestershire just before they got married in St Mary’s Church, Burton Latimer.
Mr Payne worked AT Weetabix and was also a bus conductor for a time, and Mrs Payne was a home help.
She said: “We enjoy doing crosswords and spending time with our family.
“We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the party at the weekend.”
