Lorry engulfed by fire on A14

A lorry was completely engulfed in flames after it caught fire on the westbound A14 near Kettering, causing chaos during Thursday’s rush hour.

Firefighters from Kettering and Rothwell were called to the scene, opposite Brooklands Farm, at 3.50pm although their arrival was hampered by traffic.

The fire completely halted vehicles on the westbound carriageway and traffic slowed on the eastbound road. It also caused delays on the A14/A43 roundabout near the Telegraph offices.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said the lorry trailer was empty.

She added: “The fire has been put out and we are damping down.”

No-one was injured in the incident.

The lorry, which has a City Link logo on the side, had pulled over on to the side of the road before the fire took hold.
