Mayor of London Boris Johnson paid a visit to Corby on Thursday, October 30.
Mr Johnson was in the county to meet Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Corby and East Northants Thomas Pursglove.
He visited the Conservative Club and the railway station in the town.
Tom Pursglove said: “I am delighted that Boris is helping me launch my new free car parking campaign, here in Corby.
“In the East Northamptonshire part of the constituency, which is controlled by a Conservative Council, there is free car parking. But, here in Corby, council car parking is charged for.
“That is not in the interests of local businesses, the local economy, or local people. That is why I’m campaigning to end it.”
Cllr David Sims, leader of the Conservative group at Corby Council, said: “I am delighted to be working with Tom Pursglove on this exciting new policy.
“After May 8 next year, if the Conservatives control Corby Council, I will instruct council officers to abolish the charges at the Cube Car Park and draw up plans to deliver more new free car parking spaces.”
