Scouts from across the Kettering and Corby area joined more than 1,000 others at a winter camp held last month.

The 19 local explorer scouts – the teenage section of the uniformed scouting movement – took part in a range of competitions including rifle shooting and archery, which was held at the Tolmers Scout Camp near Potters Bar in Hertfordshire.

There were also activities which included go-karts, G-force simulators and a fun fair.

Four local groups were represented. All are named after mythical creatures – the Titan group meets at the John Lowther Centre near Kettering on Mondays, the Phoenix group in Corby on Tuesdays, Cerberus in Burton Latimer, also on Tuesdays and Griffin, whose meetings are held at the Woodcroft in Kettering on Wednesdays.

“It was a very enjoyable weekend,” said one of the explorer scouts, Rhys Hammond, from the Burton Latimer group. “We all look forward to going back next year.”
