A local brewery is celebrating after winning an award for one of its beers.

Great Oakley Brewery was presented with the award by the committee of Brigstock Beer Festival.

Its beer Oakley Blonde was judged the champion beer of the 2011 festival. The award was presented by the festival chairman Chris Allen to Phil Greenway, owner of Great Oakley Brewery and chairman of the Northamptonshire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale.

Festival vice-chairman Stephen Calnan said: “It is great to see a local brewery winning, especially since Great Oakley Brewery has been involved with our beer festival since we started.”

In the seven years the festival has been held it has raised more than £35,000 for good causes.

The beer festival committee chose Headway as the main recipient of the money raised at this year’s event due to the excellent work it does to help people with head injuries and their families. The charity received a cheque for £2,940.
