Grandad Ian Fordyce decided to turn his 60th birthday celebration into a fundraising event to help his grand-daughter Lexie who has cerebral palsy.
To mark the milestone he is planning a gig featuring Small Faces tribute act The Small Fakers and every penny raised will go to the appeal to raise £40,000 to pay for surgery in America to help Lexie walk.
Lexie, four, started at Oakley Vale Primary School this week.
Mr Fordyce said: “In normal circumstances I would probably have just slipped out with a couple of friends to celebrate but I was chatting to someone at work a couple of months ago and they suggested that I make a bit of an event of it and use it to raise some money for Lexie’s Leggy Fund. I don’t want presents, cards or candles.
“My only wish is for people to buy a ticket, come along and have a great time while helping Lexie to walk.”
The Small Fakers are said to be the only Small Faces tribute band in the world and have played to sell-out audiences in Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the Republic of Ireland, as well as at gigs all over the UK.
The band has also performed with original band members Jimmy Winston and Kenney Jones.
Grampy’s Birthday Bash is being held at the Raven Hall, Rockingham Road, Corby, on Friday, October 26.
Tickets are £8 and they are available by calling Mr Fordyce on 07870 129965, from the Raven Hotel and the barber’s shop in Everest Lane, Corby.
